There is a lot more to the Jura wine region than just the pleasures of the taste buds.
There are also pleasures for the eyes, and these can be appreciated with absolutely no moderation!
Punctuated by picturesque villages and “Little Comtois Towns of Special Charm”, the Jura Wine Trail seems like an open museum.
And what museums it has: Louis Pasteur’s house, the museum of wine and vine, the Rouget de Lisle museum (composer of the Marseillaise), Maison du Comté........
The tour continues along the line of historic monuments: Chateau d’Arlay, the imperial abbey at Baume les Messieurs, the saltworks at Salins-les-Bains, churches.... offering a vibrant homage to the architecture of the region. Architecture that you will also find scattered around the winemakers’ villages, from the famous Comtois bell towers to the stepped roof “pas des moineau” houses, passing by the wash houses and the dry-stone shepherd’s huts.
And if you have any energy left, take a tour around one of the workshops that are along the Savoir Faire Trail!
